Top Ten Institutes

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has regained its top position with 585 documents and Private North South University(NSU) has regained its(10th) position among the top ten with 141 documents.

BUET has around 500 faculties and each has published one article on an average. But University of Dhaka has around 2000 faculties and publications are 499, that is, on an average 4 teachers have published one article.

General picture is that our faculties can not do enough research to publish at least  one  article  every year in standard journals indexed in Scopus database, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings.

Public Universities (General)

In this graph, comparative view of publications from General public universities is shown.

Engineering and Technology Universities

This is a comparision among Engineering and Technology universities in terms of publication. It shows how other engineering universities are performing in comparision to BUET.

Science and Technology Universities

Here is a comparative view of publications from both public and private Science and Technology universities is presented. As the oldest science and technology university, SUST is the top publisher.

Agricultural Universities and Research Institutes

Publications from Agricultural universities and Agricultural research organizations are presented together.

Medical Colleges and Institutes

Comparative view of publications by the medical college, hospitals and universities is presented.

Top Ten Private universities

North South University, Brac University and Islamic University of Technology have retained their position. Daffodil International University has risen its position and AIUB has lost its position.

BCSIR vs BAEC

On an average, these two multidisciplinary research organizations have not published one article/one researcher. This graph reveals that these two insitutes have no guideline for publications. Do they review how many articles are published each year, who is the top publisher ? Do they recognize the top performers in terms of publication?

Research subject area

As an energy starved country, 7% publications on energy reveals that we are not putting enough emphasis on this sector. Should we expect more publication from agricultre? 29% publications from computer scientists, what does that say? Expert can discuss it. As BUET is the top publisher, engineering is obviously top area of publication.

Documents type

There is significant improvement in the publication of book and book chapter.

Book and book chapter has risen from last year  to 0.2 %(11) from zero percent and 2.1% (97) from 0.3%.

29 % conference paper, what does that say? Does it match with 29 % publication in the computer science area?

Should we publish more review paper?

Young graduates who could not do enouh research for research article publication, should they focus on review article in their area of interest in which they want to do PhD in future?

Only one bussiness article,  Decision science 7 article. What do these say?

Countries with which Bangladeshi researchers collaborating

This might also reflect where Bangladeshi graduates going for higher study- PhD and Post doctoral research.

Institutes with which Bangladeshi researchers collaborating

USA is the top collaborative country and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of  Public Helath is the top collaborative institute.  Malaysian universities are drawing a large number of Bangladeshi graduates, though Malaysia is the fouth btop collaborative country for Banladesh.

Publication from South Asian and other countries

This comparision is presented so that we can have a regional view where we stand in terms of research and publications.

Apparently this is a quantitative review. But if we keep in mind that to be indexed in scopus, journals need to maintain a standard, we can have our qualitative view of our publications.

More detailed university and institute wise and  subject area wise reviews are  also needed. We should recognize the top publishers in different subject area, such as physics, chemistry, biological science, environmental science, computer science, medicine, energy, social science. agriculral science. Science and Technlogy ministry should take  measures  about it.

The universities and research organizations should also recognize their top publishers to improve publication culture  and ultimately research culture.
