Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow (ARC Project)

Our prestigious School of Psychology is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to undertake research as part of the “Breaking with the past: Responding to the challenge of identity change” project funded by the Australian Research Council Australian Laureate Scheme. Professor Jolanda Jetten is the Chief Investigator. The program of research centres on the argument that collective-level change necessarily involves social identity change. While much psychological research to date has focused on individual-level life changes, the way that change at the group, collective or societal level affects individuals in those entities remains poorly understood. The research aims to advance our understanding of identity change by extending this research to the collective level.

Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow – Economics & Sustainable Minerals Institute

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to achieve national and international recognition in interdisciplinary and impactful research and to develop and leverage on collaborations between the School of Economics, the Sustainable Minerals Institute and the QUEX Institute between The University of Queensland and the University of Exeter.  The need for new clean energy systems is urgent and becoming increasingly crucial to support the world’s growing power needs. However, this presents many complex challenges for our global environment. One challenges is the supply of ‘energy transition’ minerals such as lithium, copper, cobalt and the rare earth elements, which are critical  for creating new energy technologies. These minerals are fundamentally linked in a global supply chain that underpins the pathway towards net-zero emissions. Without a reliable supply chain towards decarbonization, we will fail to meet our commitments to net-zero emissions. The intractable challenge for our global environmental future is that delivering against net-zero policy commitments requires expanded mineral production, which could intensify emissions, environmental, and social pressures in mining regions. Addressing this complex system of interactions and consequences requires rethinking the economics of supply, the principles of production, and the consequences for mining regions.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Centre for Policy Futures

The position will undertake primary research on the socio-political, cultural and environmental implications of the expansion of high-value horticulture for the contested regional politics of (a) land and development, (b) labour and livelihoods, and (c) natural resources and environmental governance. The project will analyse how incorporation within agricultural global production networks interacts with diverse drivers of multifunctional landscape change in the north-eastern coastal strip region of Australia (from Coffs Harbour to Cairns), and critically consider how pre-existing regional economic, social and environmental factors influence the form of, and tensions around, the development of high-value horticulture.
