The Position:

The Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics in the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2026. Science Careers

Applicants must hold a PhD in computational, biological, or related sciences and demonstrate:

  • A strong publication record

  • Evidence of research excellence and potential to secure external funding

  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. levels

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain an externally funded research program, actively engage graduate and undergraduate researchers, and contribute to the academic mission of the department.

Research Areas:

Qualified applicants in any area of bioinformatics are welcome. Research interests that complement and expand departmental strengths are particularly encouraged. Example focus areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Human, model, or non-model organism genomics

  • Precision medicine

  • Statistical genetics

  • Cloud computing approaches in bioinformatics

  • Computational plant genetics

  • Microbiome analysis

  • Phylogenomics

  • Computational or theoretical ecology
