Every year, about 118.4 million bags of blood are collected in the world. But the need is much greater. According to the Department of Health of Bangladesh, about 55,000 people die every year without getting blood in proportion to the demand. Voluntary blood donation has declined by 32% due to the Corona Covid-19 epidemic.

According to the World Health Organization’s 2019 statistics, 116.4 million people around the world donate blood. However, the rate of voluntary blood donation per thousand is 32.2% in high-income countries, 15.1% in upper-middle-income countries, 7.1% in low-middle-income countries and 4.4% in low-income countries.16% of the world’s population voluntarily donate blood. Since the end of 2019, the number of blood donations has been declining day by day due to the Corona Covid-19 epidemic. As a result, the demand of blood is increasing day by day.

According to the Department Of Health in Bangladesh, a survey conducted by the Ministry of Health in 2013 revealed that about 4,00000 bags of blood are needed every year. In 2019, it came in 13,00000(1.3 million) bags. The demand for blood in the country has more than tripled in six years. Of these, 35%-40% are obtained from relatives of the patient, 15%-20% from volunteers and 15%-20% from professional blood sellers. The remaining 20%-25% or about 2,50000 bags of blood remain deficient. The amount of deficient and unsafe blood is about 40% or about 5,00000. About 55,000people die every year without getting blood in proportion to the demand.

According to the World Health Organization’s 2019 statistics, from 2008 to 2015, 11.6 million blood was collected from professional blood donors. According to experts, professional blood donors are mostly drug addicts. They regularly sell blood to raise money for drugs. It is dangerous to take blood of drug addicts. They have germs in their blood including Hepatitis, AIDS, Syphilis and many other diseases. After taking their blood, the patient survives but later suffers from a deadly disease.
