The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Bangladesh invites applications from qualified Bangladeshi nationals for the position of National Biodiversity Specialist (SC-9) under a GEF-8 financed project on the Integrated Management of Ecologically Critical Areas (ECAs). The assignment will contribute to ecosystem-based conservation, biodiversity restoration, and climate-resilient landscape management in Jaflong–Dawki, Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf Peninsula, and Sonadia ECAs, in collaboration with the Department of Environment (DoE) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). Key Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of climate resilience into ECA management through climate risk assessments and ecosystem-based/nature-based solutions.
- Establish biodiversity baselines and support the identification of priority project sites.
- Provide technical guidance on sustainable management and restoration of forest, wetland, coastal, marine, and hill ecosystems.
- Support biodiversity conservation initiatives, including in-situ and ex-situ wildlife conservation and small conservation museums.
- Contribute to training, policy coherence, documentation, and reporting in line with FAO and GEF standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in biodiversity conservation, environmental sciences, natural resources management, agriculture, or related fields.
- At least 9 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity and ecosystem management, preferably in ECAs or fragile areas of Bangladesh.
- Working knowledge of English (Level C).
- Bangladeshi nationality.
Duration and Duty Station
- Duration: 40 days
- Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh (with field travel)

Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), in close collaboration with the Project Team.
