Overview: The NOMIS & Science Young Explorer Award is an esteemed international recognition aimed at early-career researchers who are exploring fundamental scientific questions at the crossroads of life and social sciences. Established through a partnership between Science magazine and the NOMIS Foundation, this award seeks to support innovative scientific inquiry that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and generates new insights into complex societal and biological challenges. Rules of the Award:
Eligibility:

- Open to early-career scientists holding an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D.
- Applicants must have received their degree within the last 10 years.
- The award will be given annually to two young scientists based on work completed in the past 3 years.
Submission Guidelines:

- AI-generated content, figures, images, or graphics cannot be used in the submission.
- Minor editing with tools like Grammarly is allowed but must be disclosed.
- Entrants must ensure accuracy, avoid plagiarism, and appropriately cite sources.
- Editors may reject entries if AI tools are misused.
Essay Focus:

- Essays must highlight the entrant’s individual contribution, even if the research was part of a team effort.
- Entrants cannot win multiple Science Prizes with the same or similar essays on the same research.
Past Winners:

- Past Science Prize winners cannot apply for another prize until at least 5 years have passed since their award. Please see here.
Ineligibility:

- Employees of NOMIS Foundation, Science, AAAS, and their relatives are not eligible.
What the Award Offers:
Grand Prize Winner:

- A monetary award of $15,000.
- An exclusive invitation to present a research proposal to the NOMIS Board for potential further funding.
- Publication of the winner’s essay in Science, providing global visibility.
- The opportunity to connect with leading scientists and experts in various disciplines.
Finalists (Up to Two):

- A $5,000 monetary award each.
- Their essays will also be published in Science, showcasing their work to a global audience.
Application & Submission Process:
- Essay Requirement: Candidates must submit a 1,000-word essay summarizing original research conducted within the past three years.
- Supporting Documents: Applicants must also provide a CV and a brief summary of their research achievements.
- Deadline: Submissions must be completed by May 15, 2025.
