Rajshahi University is the top second institute among Bangladeshi universities, and research institutes regarding the number of publications in Scopus indexed journals, book series, and trade publications in 2021.
1. Document type
In 2021, according to the Scopus database (data collected on 22 January 2022), researchers of Rajshahi University published around 721 research documents, with the majority (79.5%) of them being Scopus indexed journal articles. The remaining were published as conference papers, review articles, and book chapters.
Out of 721(358 are open access) publications, 155(lower than last year) have corresponding authors with the official email addresses of the University of Rajshahi. This means researchers from Rajshahi university have made a significant contribution in only 21% (1/5th) of publications. More than 2/3 publications(520) have Bangladesh in the corresponding address. However, This number of publications was published by 1230 full-time academics. Thus per faculty publication ratio is 0.59. This is not a satisfactory index.

Out of 721 scientific documents, almost 80% are research articles; conference papers are 10%, and review papers are 6%.
2. Subject Area
Physics and Astronomy(10.5%) have appeared as the top publication area. This is an exceptional case in the research in our universities. Then Engineering (9.8%), Material sciences(7.5%), and Medicine (7.5%) are other main subject areas in terms of publications. 
3. Collaboration (institutional and international)
The researchers of the University established several international and national collaborations. In the case of international collaboration, universities from Australia and Saudi Arabia were the main partners. However, not many collaborative projects were identified with research-intensive countries in North America or Europe.
International Islamic University Chittagong, Pabna, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Rajshahi 0University Engineering and Technology, University of Dhaka, Khulna University were major local partners.
4. Funding sponsors
Rajshahi University has appeared as the top funding body, sponsoring research of 42 research articles, which was only three last year. It seems researchers acknowledge the funding from the University more. Or is it an actual increase in research funding from the University?

Concluding remarks:
As a university, Rajshahi University is making continuous progress in research. From third position last year, Rajshahi University secured the second position regarding the number of publications in Scopus indexed journals/proceedings. Congratulations !!!
But publications/faculty and the rate of the corresponding authors are far from satisfactory—a long way to go.
