The Confinement Mechanobiology group’s broad objective is to use mechanobiology principles and recent observations on the nature of small, fluid-filled ‘cellular highways’ in the interstitial extracellular matrix (ECM) to identify, engineer, and leverage the role of confinement in cell biology. It is interested in leveraging new molecular biology tools, including RNA-Seq, CRISPR screens, ChIP-seq, and engineered tensions sensor probes to better understand the mechanical and genetic responses of the nucleus to self-induced cellular confinement, and then extend these findings to the cytoskeleton, focal adhesions, and extracellular matrix.
