The ASU-Science Prize for Transformational Impact is being awarded annually to one early-career scientist whose research has been conducted using innovative methods to address major societal challenges. Exceptional contributions that have influenced decision-making and public policy are being sought and will be celebrated. Science
Recognition and Awards:
- A grand prize of USD 30,000 will be awarded to one winner. The winning essay will be published in Science, both in print and online.
- A runner-up will be awarded USD 10,000, and their essay will be published online in Science.
- All taxes and additional expenses related to the prizes will be the responsibility of the recipients.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Only early-career scientists holding an M.D., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or J.D. will be considered.
- The qualifying degree must have been received within the last 15 years.
- Submissions must be authored by a single individual, focusing on their independent contribution to the research.
- Past winners of a Science Prize must wait at least 5 years before reapplying.
- Individuals affiliated with ASU, AAAS, or their immediate families are not eligible.
Submission Materials:
All required documents must be submitted electronically through the official platform. The following must be included:
- A completed Entry Form
- A 1000-word essay written by the applicant describing:
- The problem being addressed
- The innovative approach applied
- Engagement with stakeholders and communities
- The public benefit and policy implications of the research
(One figure or table and up to 15 citations may be included)
- A 500-word personal statement explaining:
- Long-term research goals
- Community collaboration strategies
- The broader societal and policy relevance of the work
- A one-page recommendation letter from a postdoctoral adviser, supervisor, or senior colleague familiar with the work
- A Curriculum Vitae, including:
- Full citations of published papers related to the research
- Academic honors and awards
- Relevant experience

- Text, figures, or graphics must not be generated or edited using AI tools without explicit approval from Science editors.
- A License to Publish must be signed by all winners, confirming compliance with this rule.
