Role:
Springer Nature is seeking a Publisher/Senior Publisher to manage a portfolio of proprietary and society open-access journals published under the npj brand, covering topics from fundamental physics to engineering and clinical research. This role focuses on strategic development, journal growth, partner management, and editorial excellence.
You will work closely with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, society partners, and internal teams, reporting to an Executive Publisher.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development and growth of open-access journals within the npj portfolio.

Provide best-in-class author experience and foster engagement with societies, editors, and EBMs.

Manage relationships with partner societies, including contract negotiations.

Monitor and achieve targets for submissions, publications, transfers, and turnaround times.

Ensure regular KPI tracking, reporting, and performance improvements.

Oversee Journal Development/Improvement Plans and ensure successful execution.

Resolve pre- and post-publication issues (scope, ethics, authorship, misconduct, etc.).

Build strong relationships through external meetings and community engagement.

Stay informed about research community trends and propose new opportunities.

Collaborate with Production, IT, Sales, Marketing, and Finance teams.

Contribute to new journal proposals and commercial opportunities.

Participate in cross-departmental projects and company-wide initiatives.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a relevant scientific field.

Prior experience in academic publishing required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and comfort with digital tools/IT systems.

Proactive problem-solving and ability to work independently.

Strong interpersonal, influencing, and teamwork abilities.

Effective time management, organization, and adaptability.

Ability to travel frequently.

Experience working with researchers and maintaining professional relationships.
