Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) invites outstanding global talents to join its Major Agricultural Microbiology Research Facility, a world-class initiative built upon the university’s long-standing excellence in agricultural microbiology. Founded by Professor Chen Huakui—pioneer of China’s soil microbiology—the discipline has developed into a powerhouse featuring national platforms such as the National Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology and the National Engineering Research Center of Microbial Pesticides.
Since 2017, HZAU has been developing an ultra-high-throughput, automated, and intelligent research infrastructure aimed at becoming a national major science and technology facility. To further strengthen this endeavor, applications are invited for several senior-level positions. Nature Careers
I. Positions and Requirements:
1. Chief Scientist in Microbial Resources:
Responsibilities:
-
Lead strategic planning and implementation of the microbiology research facility
-
Oversee microbial resource exploration, conservation, and utilization
-
Conduct frontier research on microbial diversity and microbe–host–environment interactions
-
Organize major science and technology facility applications, lead major projects, and support commercialization
-
Coordinate domestic and international collaborations
Requirements:

Globally recognized leader in microbial resource research
-
Strong track record of innovation, impactful research outputs, and international recognition

Experience leading or participating in major scientific facilities or microbial resource programs

Preference for candidates with high-throughput microbial resource exploration expertise
2. Scientist in Precision Instrument Design and Manufacturing:
Responsibilities:
-
Design and develop advanced instruments for microbial resource exploration and engineering
-
Conduct integrated equipment development aligned with facility goals
-
Contribute to breakthroughs in high-end instrument technology
Requirements:
-
Minimum 10 years’ experience in precision instrument design and manufacturing

Leadership experience and internationally recognized achievements
-
Expertise in design theory, manufacturing processes, and performance optimization

Skills in mechanical engineering, microelectronics, optics, or nanotechnology

Experience in commercialization or market translation preferred
3. Scientist in Automation Control:
Responsibilities:

Design and optimize automation control systems for large-scale microbiology research
-
Apply AI, sensing, and digital technologies to microbial research automation
-
Develop roadmaps for next-generation intelligent microbial research facilities
Requirements:
-
At least 10 years of experience in automation control systems

Proficiency in system modeling, simulation, optimization, and AI-based control

Strong interdisciplinary capability, creativity, and collaborative experience

Preference for candidates with experience in large-scale industrial automation solutions
