Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Cancer Virology
Our laboratory is part of a thriving research environment within the Faculty of Biological Sciences, which houses over 100 research groups, 15 of which study viruses. We use cell biology and biochemical techniques to answer important questions about how DNA tumour viruses perform their infection cycles, and in doing so, we hope to understand how they cause disease and ultimately develop strategies to prevent growth and thus disease. Our group is an international authority in DNA tumour virology, we regularly publish in leading journals (e.g. PMID: 33627786; PMID: 35194151; PMID: 33303976) and present our work at national and international meetings. We are collegiate and collaborative, and believe in people-centric working.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Crop Genetics
We are motivated to understand how cereal development is regulated by environmental factors. To do this we employ a wide range of techniques rooted in molecular biology and molecular genetics. This role will involve developing and testing hypothesis around the regulation of floral meristems during wheat development and conducting molecular experiments to understand how early floral development is regulated by light and temperature. From these experiments the data will need to be critically analysed and learning from the experiments applied to form new hypothesis and experiments. The role will include detailed developmental analysis of wheat plants, including by molecular experiments, such as expression assays and cloning to understand gene function.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Process Chemistry
We are seeking a Research Fellow in Process Chemistry to deliver multistep synthesis of substantial pharmaceutical precursors and work on subsequent automated case studies with chemical engineers to demonstrate optimisation of lower cost and more sustainable synthesis of essential medicines. The overarching project aims to develop an Industry 4.0 approach revolutionising the transfer from laboratory to production plant. You will develop the process chemistry routes and synthesis for the scale-up synthesis (~100g) of pharmaceutical precursors (via batch or flow methods) for essential medicine building blocks for the treatment of HIV, and further scale-up case studies on the continuous flow platforms within the IPRD. This will require multistep large-scale synthesis within the IPRD to deliver the material for the optimisation campaigns.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Electronic Structure Modelling
Electrostatic charge accumulation in powders and grains, due to collisional and sliding contacts of surfaces of solids, commonly known as triboelectrification, is a nuisance and source of hazards, and at the same time, it has great potential for exploitation, as in the fast-growing technology of Tribo-Electric Nano-Generators (TENG). The former adversely affects manufacturability, due to issues such as downtime, valuable product loss and negative environmental impact, whilst for the latter, the identification of durable and efficient functional materials is highly desirable. The capability to predict triboelectrification tendency of materials provides a great competitive edge in advanced manufacturing across a wide range of industries from food and pharmaceuticals to additive manufacturing, polymers and TENG.
