Available Positions:

1. Senior Scientist – Operational & Educational Coordinator for UMSC
Lead and coordinate UMSC’s operational activities, personnel and strategic development, including the introduction of advanced technologies such as autonomous underwater vehicles, remote sensing, hyperspectral imaging and analytical pipelines.

2. PhD in Marine Observation System Resilience –
Investigate how marine observation systems can become more resilient, scalable and adaptive under environmental and climate change, integrating emerging observation technologies with ecosystem monitoring.
Deadline: 16 August 2026

3. Postdoctoral Scholar – Intelligent Data Sampling for Phytoplankton Monitoring
Apply statistical learning, sparse-data analysis and time-frequency methods to investigate optimal phytoplankton monitoring frequency using high-resolution European and Baltic datasets, with opportunities for coastal fieldwork in the Gulf of Bothnia.
Deadline: 15 August 2026

4. Research Assistant – Marine Biology & Biogeochemistry
Conduct multidisciplinary research combining fieldwork, laboratory experiments and computational approaches to study coastal ecosystems, photosynthesis, carbon cycling and biomineralisation, including coralline algae, coral reefs, seaweed stands and mangrove forests.
