A fully funded PhD position is available in the Nucleic Acid Immunity Lab at VIB–UGent Center for Inflammation Research to investigate the mechanisms of mRNA vaccination and innate immune activation. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment focusing on how nucleic acid sensors regulate protective immune responses triggered by mRNA vaccines. Nature Careers
Research Project
Nucleic acids derived from viruses or vaccines can activate intracellular immune sensors, leading to antiviral and protective immune responses. This PhD project aims to identify the nucleic acid sensing pathways responsible for inducing protective immunity following mRNA vaccination.
During the PhD, the candidate will develop expertise in:
- Nucleic acid immunity
- Molecular and cellular biology techniques
- In vivo mouse models of mRNA vaccination
- Advanced immunological research approaches
- The project will be conducted in collaboration with research groups led by
- Sophie Janssens and Stefaan De Smedt to understand the role of nucleic acid sensors in mRNA vaccine responses.
