ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should have:
- PhD degree in Life Science, Biotechnology or a related field.
- At least 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience at a senior management level in a scientific or corporate environment.
- Strong research or technical expertise in biotechnology and related areas.
- Preferably, recognised international standing in their specialist field.
- Strong scientific and/or business networks.
- Competence in:
- Research and development
- Business development
- Product development
- Technology and market assessment
- Knowledge of current biotechnology and technology trends.
- Familiarity with the development and commercial application of biotechnology in Mainland China is an advantage.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Proficiency in written Chinese and spoken Cantonese and Putonghua.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Biotechnology Director will:
- Provide expert biotechnology advice to the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology.
- Lead a team of professional staff working in biotechnology-related areas.
- Develop and refine solicitation themes for innovation funding.
- Undertake assessment of research and innovation projects.
- Monitor project progress and evaluate programmes.
- Support programmes under the Innovation and Technology Fund and other government funding schemes.
- Maintain strategic relationships with:
- Universities and academia
- Research institutes
- Biotechnology industries
- Relevant professional and business organisations
- Liaise with and support other government departments and organisations on biotechnology initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic development and other activities of the Commission.
CONTRACT & BENEFITS:
The successful candidate will normally be appointed for 2–3 years under non-civil service agreement terms.
