The Collaborative Research Center TRR-386 “Hyperpolarization in Molecular Systems”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), is centered at the Leipzig University and the Chemnitz University of Technology with partners at RWTH Aachen University, University of Augsburg, Technical University of Munich, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, University of Rostock.

The TRR-386 will focus on the controlled realization of transient spin order of electrons or magnetic nuclei, i.e., of hyperpolarization, in molecular systems. This is expected to have a major impact in three research areas of chemistry and physics, namely magnetic resonance, spintronics and spin-chemistry which will be merged. To this end, the TRR-386 will contribute to the fundamental understanding of generation of electronic and nuclear spin hyperpolarization, its transport through molecular structures and its control. We expect implications towards applications for example in medicine, multifunctional electronics, and efficient chemical catalysis.

In total, 29 PhD positions are available at the above universities and institutions.

General requirements:

•           Master‘s degree in chemistry, physics, biochemistry or related fields.

•           Experience in one of the following areas: organic or inorganic synthesis, polymer chemistry, protein design and synthesis, optical spectroscopy, magnetism, magnetic resonance, surface analysis, theoretical physics and chemistry, structural biology or artificial intelligence.

•           Strong command of English, both in oral and written communication

•           High interest in conducting interdisciplinary research in a strongly networked collaborative research center
